Mindanao (/mɪndəˈnaʊ/ min-də-NOW) is the second largest and southernmost major island in the Philippines. It is also the name of one of the three island groups in the country (the other two being Luzon and the Visayas), consisting of the island of Mindanao and smaller outlying islands. Davao City is the largest city in Mindanao. As of the 2010 census, the island's population itself is 20,281,545 people, while the Mindanao island group has 21,968,174 inhabitants.
Parts of south-western Mindanao island group, particularly the provinces of Maguindanao, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi (part of the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM)), are home to a sizeable Muslim population, making the island group, along with Palawan, the only area of the Philippines with a significant Muslim presence. Due to widespread poverty and religious differences, the island has seen a communist insurgency as well as armed Moro separatist movements.
Mindanao is considered the food basket of the Philippines. Eight of the top 10 agri-commodities exported from the Philippines come from here. Mindanao is also dubbed with the moniker as The Philippines' Land of Promise.
Davao City (Cebuano: Dakbayan sa Dabaw, Filipino: Lungsod ng Dabaw, Malay: Kota Davao, Spanish: Ciudad de Dávao) is a city on Mindanao, Philippines. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 1,449,296 people, making it the fourth-most-populous city in the Philippines and the most populous in Mindanao. It is the center of Metro Davao, the third most populous metropolitan area in the Philippines (as of 2010 census with a population of 2.26 million, after Metro Manila's 11.86 million and Metro Cebu's 2.55 million). With a total land area of 2,444 square kilometers, the city is the largest in the country in terms of land area. The city serves as the main trade, commerce, and industry hub of Mindanao and the regional center of Davao Region. Davao is home to Mount Apo, the highest mountain in the Philippines. Davao is also known as the "Durian Capital" of the Philippines.
For geographical and statistical purposes, Davao City is grouped with the province of Davao del Sur but is governed independently from it. The city is divided into three congressional districts, which are subdivided into 11 administrative districts with a total of 182 barangays.

The Philippines (i/ˈfɪlᵻpiːnz/; Filipino: Pilipinas [ˌpɪlɪˈpinɐs]), officially known as the Republic of the Philippines (Filipino: Republika ng Pilipinas), is a sovereign island country in Southeast Asia situated in the western Pacific Ocean. It consists of about 7,500 islands that are categorized broadly under three main geographical divisions: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The capital city of the Philippines is Manila and the most populous city is Quezon City; both are part of Metro Manila.
To the north of the Philippines across the Luzon Strait lies Taiwan; Vietnam sits west across the South China Sea; southwest lies Malaysia in the island of Borneo across the Sulu Sea, and to the south the Celebes Sea separates it from other islands of Indonesia; while to the east it is bounded by the Philippine Sea and the island-nation of Palau. Its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire and close to the equator makes the Philippines prone to earthquakes and typhoons, but also endows it with abundant natural resources and some of the world's greatest biodiversity. At approximately 300,000 square kilometers (115,831 sq mi), the Philippines is the 72nd-largest country in the world.
Phase 1, Phase I or Phase One may refer to:
Davao del Norte (Filipino: Hilagang Dabaw), is a province in the Philippines located in the Davao Region in Mindanao. Its capital is Tagum City. Davao del Norte also includes Samal Island to the south in the Davao Gulf.
Before 1967, the five provinces—Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental and Compostela Valley—were once a single province named Davao. The Davao Region covers this historic province.
Davao del Norte is also known as "the banana capital of the Philippines."
Davao del Norte and Compostela Valley, together with Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental and Davao del Sur used to be a whole province simply known as Davao. This original province was split into three: Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, and Davao del Sur when Republic Act No. 4867 (authored by Representative Lorenzo S. Sarmiento, Sr.) was signed into law on May 8, 1967 by President Ferdinand Marcos.
Davao del Norte was originally composed of thirteen municipalities, namely: Asuncion, Babak (now in Samal City), Compostela, Kapalong, Mabini, Mawab, Monkayo, Nabunturan, Panabo, Pantukan, Samal, Santo Tomas and Tagum. On May 6, 1970, six more municipalities were created: Carmen, Kaputian (now in Samal City), Maco, Montevista, New Bataan, and New Corella.

Beware when traveling to the Southern Island of Mindanao in the Philippines. I have been getting quite a few comments and questions with regard to my trips to Mindanao in the Southern Philippines. Asking if I'm a bit concerned for my safety. I would say yes maybe a little bit more now after these comments. I am always a little nervous on my way over there, but once I hit the airport in General Santos City I'm good. On my very first trip there I was a little bit worried, because of what I had read about the problems they are having with terrorism and the kidnappings on the Island of Mindanao along with the travel warnings issued by the US state department. When we were coming in for a landing at GenSan you fly out over the Sarangani bay and then turn and bank in for the landing. I've spent ...

Part 1: ride to Lake Sebu, and arrival Dongon Falls. http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/mutadis Why Sebu ? One time at home, I saw in a travel guide a little fairy picture of bamboo huts on pillows in water. The book contained only a few lines of information about the lake. The picture fascinated me. I started fantasizing; was it possible to reach that image in real? The contrast of the primitive huts, versus our western organised glass house life. Who is never searching for a lost paradise? During a stay in Davao City, I tried to reach the mysterious lake, but no one wanted to drive me there! Maybe they were a little frightened. Until, the day before I had to fly back! So, too late. One day, in Manila's underworld, I met a (too) young girl, who 'operated' in the city with false ID papers....
